About

Hi, I’m Mara

A former office worker who swapped spreadsheets for slow trains — and never looked back.

Why I travel slowly

My first trip was a rushed, two-week sprint through five countries. I came home with a camera full of photos and almost no memories. On the next trip I stayed in one town for a month, and I still remember the names of the people who ran the bakery.

Northbound Notes is where I share what I’ve learned since: itineraries that leave room to breathe, food worth crossing a city for, and honest advice — including the mistakes.
